Nassau police have stepped up patrols at Sikh temples in the county after eight people were killed at a FedEx warehouse in Indianapolis Thursday.
Indianapolis police say 19-year-old Brandon Hole, a former warehouse employee, killed himself after the shooting. They say four out of the eight people killed were members of the Sikh community, but it's unclear if they were specifically targeted in the shooting.
During a time of escalated attacks on ethnic groups like Asians and others, the Sikh community on Long Island says some have felt targeted and are afraid.
Mohinder Singh Taneja, of the Plainview Sikh Center, says the additional officers in front of the temples is appreciated.
Sikhs say they will have special prayers for those killed in Indianapolis and hope that everyone can learn to embrace our country's diversity and end the violence.
