Nassau police officers rescued a group of ducklings Saturday after they fell through a sewer grate in Massapequa.

Authorities say they received a 911 call reporting an agitated mother duck walking dangerously into traffic on Old Sunrise Highway after her four ducklings fell into an approximately 8-foot-deep sewer.

Upon arrival at the scene, police officers could hear the distressed ducklings but could not see them or immediately remove the sewer grate.

The four officers and two ESU workers traced the paths of sewer systems to a nearby reservoir, according to authorities. They then played the sounds of mother duck calls from YouTube in an attempt to lure them to the opening.

Police say the ducks then waddled to the officers, who cleaned them up and returned them to their mother at a nearby creek.
