Some Nassau County police officers hosted a shopping spree for homeless children Thursday.
The event took place at Matty's Toy Store on Peninsula Boulevard in Hewlett.
The Nassau County Police PBA and Nassau County Police Foundation provided free new toys for families at homeless shelters across Long Island. Each child received $110 to spend.
After the kids got their toys, they also got to check out an emergency services armored truck and meet a police horse and dog.
On Long Island, there are over 8,000 homeless students, indicating a sharp rise among the youth population.
