Nassau County’s police commissioner took to Twitter Wednesday to defend outgoing NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell, who resigned earlier this week.
NCPD Commissioner Patrick Ryder responded to a tweet from Fox News host Laura Ingraham, where she claimed Sewell’s appointment was a “flop” that was based on politics, not merit.
Ryder tweeted back, saying while he is a fan of the Fox host, that Ingraham was wrong, and Sewell’s appointment was based on “ability, professionalism” and “integrity.”
Ryder added that Sewell is a class act and a “great cop.”
“I was her boss as NCPD commissioner and I would stand with her anywhere, anyday and anytime!” tweeted Ryder. Sewell was Nassau’s chief of detectives when she left the department for the NYPD.
Sewell held the NYPD post for a year and a half and was the first woman to be NYPD commissioner.
