The Nassau police union is speaking out about the surveillance video that allegedly shows two officers beating a man during a traffic stop.
The video allegedly shows officers hitting and kicking 20-year-old Kyle Howell during a traffic stop in Westbury last month.
Nassau PBA President James Carver says those two officers acted appropriately. He claims Howell repeatedly ignored the officers commands to show his hands, had marijuana in plain sight and tried to run out of the car.
Carver adds that Howell attacked the officers and they needed to take control of the situation.
Howell's attorneys say that the officer's force was excessive, and has asked the judge to dismiss the assault charges.
The judge is still reviewing the surveillance video.
The case is due back in court Monday.
