Nassau officials have expressed outrage over a plea deal for a man accused of attacking a Long Islander over his faith.
It comes after the Manhattan DA offered a six-month jail sentence to Waseem Awawdeh.
Officials say Awawden, with a mob, beat a Nassau resident for being Jewish.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is putting pressure on the DA to lengthen the proposed sentence.
“We are setting a dangerous precedent, we are sending a dangerous message to those people who would engage in any kind of hate crime," says Blakeman.
Awawdeh is set to return to court later this month.
