Nassau legislators unanimously passed a campaign disclosure law.
The legislation requires anyone applying for a county contract to disclose how much they've contributed to political campaigns.
It comes after the conviction of former state Sen. Dean Skelos and an ongoing investigation into whether Nassau County officials awarded county contracts to supporters of County Executive Ed Mangano.
The county executive introduced the legislation, and Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves says it is a step in the right direction.
Though Democrats passed the bill, Democratic Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams says the bill doesn't go far enough.
"It does not provide the necessary contract reforms that every single resident in this county and quite frankly anywhere throughout this entire state is looking for from their elected representatives," says Abrahams.
A spokesperson for Mangano says the legislation does advance transparency but added that the county executive supports further reform. He also says Mangano has voluntarily agreed to not accept contributions from county contractors pending any final decisions on finance reform.
