Nassau lawmakers pass amended 2016 budget
The Nassau Legislature passed an amended budget for 2016 on party lines Thursday.
The $3 billion Republican-backed budget does not include a property tax hike but does include $20 million in revenue from a video gaming facility that doesn't have a location yet -- an item Democrats vehemently oppose.
County Executive Ed Mangano's original budget included a 1.2 percent property tax hike that legislators on both sides said they wouldn't support. The budget will now go back to Mangano. If he vetoes it -- like he did last year -- the Democrats pledged that they would override that veto in an effort to ensure no tax increase would take place.
Republicans say they are confident the county executive will sign off on the budget.
There were seven nays and 11 ayes in the budget vote.
