Several Nassau County lawmakers say they are wary of the county's impending bus deal with Veolia Transportation after its parent company announced a major cost-cutting initiative. Veolia, the company in line to privatize Long Island Bus, said a subsidiary of its parent organization is leaving the mass transit business to save money. Lawmakers must decide whether they will award a contract to Veolia by the end of the month. Nassau County legislators expressed their concern today for bus riders. "Obviously, their fiscal heath is imperative to our confidence level," says Nassau County Leg. Judy Jacobs. Veolia representatives say the move will have no impact on their contract with the county.Hundreds pack into tense LI Bus public hearingNassau lawmakers spar over LI Bus contractLI Bus riders face no fare increase in privatization deal
