Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi and developers Charles Wang and Scott Rechler are pushing forward with their plan to redevelop the Nassau Coliseum and surrounding area.
The renovation of the Coliseum is scheduled to be one of the first projects, with housing, a minor-league ballpark and a transportation system to follow. Suozzi says the plan will address three major problems facing Nassau: high property taxes, growing traffic and young people leaving.
Suozzi says he hopes the county Legislature will give the OK for negotiations to begin quickly, but officials say it could take as long as two years before the necessary approvals are made.
