Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice has decided to reopen the investigation into the death of Kelly Ann Tinyes, one of Long Island's most notorious murder cases.
Rice and prosecutors believe convicted killer Robert Golub may have had an accomplice in the 1989 slaying.
"There [are] potentially other people that could be responsible for the murder of Kelly Ann Tinyes," says Rice.
Tinyes was only 13 when she was found dead in the home of Golub, her 21-year-old neighbor at the time. Some, including Tinyes' family, believe Golub's younger brother John Jay may have played a role in her death.
"I believe John Jay made the phone call, I believe [he] opened the door and I believe he was there when Robert murdered Kelly," says Richard Tinyes, the victim's father.
Prosecutors are re-examining who else was present when the teenager was murdered and hope to learn what role, if any, they played.
"At the time of this murder, there were more than two people in the home," says Rice. "There were three people in the home."
