Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice says she is rejecting any plea bargain for the alleged driver of the car that struck Police Officer Kenneth Baribault, leaving him in critical condition.
Baribault was allegedly struck on May 18 by Rahiem Griffin?s vehicle after the officer pulled over a separate vehicle on the LIE. Prosecutors say Griffin was drunk and had a blood alcohol level of .13.
Rice says the 8-count indictment put forward by a grand jury charges Griffin with second-degree vehicular assault, DWI and other charges. She says there will be no plea bargain.
Prosecutors say Griffin did not have a valid driver?s license and had an open container of alcohol in the car with him at the time of the accident.
For the past month, Baribault has been heavily sedated and recovering in the intensive care unit of Nassau University Medical Center.
If found guilty, Griffin faces up to seven years behind bars. He is being held on $200,000 bond.
