Nassau County is receiving more money from New York state to make sure bumpy roads are much smoother and to repair pothole-riddled roads.
Officials announced today that Nassau County is receiving a record amount of money from the state this year for road improvements totaling $34 million. That is more than 31% over last year's number.
County officials say about a third of the money will be allocated to county roads. The rest will go toward town and village roads.
As more and more Long Islanders hit the road, the funding is especially important.
State Sen. Anna Kaplan said, "This will mean big things for our roads in every community across the county. But most importantly, it will mean fewer headaches for drivers and less wear and tear on their car.
Additionally, as we seek to grow our economy and recover from this pandemic, investing in our roads, means more good jobs."
Suffolk County is also receiving money from the state, but News 12 has not received the official word on how much it is.
