Nassau County police are hoping to create a more diverse department, which is being reflected in its newest class of recruits.
Of the 161 recruits sworn in during a ceremony in Garden City yesterday, 13.6% of the recruits are minorities.
The number is about the same amount of non-white Nassau officer sworn in leading up to the ceremony.
A member of the new class tells News 12 she hopes to change how people think of the police.
