Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano is proposing new fees on some county services to help pay for new labor contracts.
Services affected would include home renovation permits, museum admissions and parking at Nickerson Beach. It would also cost more to play on county golf courses.
The new revenues would be used to help pay for new labor contracts with police and municipal unions, and revise the county's four-year budget plan.
Leg. Dave Denenberg and other Democrats say it's the second user fee hike in less than two years, and it won't cover the labor contract increases that total $130 million.
The county's deputy executive says the proposed fees are not a tax increase, but will be used to "defray the costs associated with discretionary services."
If approved by the Nassau Legislature, the fees are expected to bring in $15 million.
