(AP) - A New York official has proposed a newlease that would keep the Islanders hockey team at Long Island'sNassau Coliseum until at least 2030.
Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi's proposal still requiresapproval from several layers of local government.
It also is contingent on Islanders' owner Charles Wanggetting approval to develop 77 acres in and around the NassauColiseum.
Wang envisions a $3.8 billion development of retail, office andprivate housing at the site. Included in that is a $320 millionrenovation of the Coliseum, which Wang says he will finance.
He needs the approval of Hempstead town officials to proceedwith the development, but they have been cautious in theirdeliberations. The Islanders' current lease expires in 2015.
