The Nassau Civil Liberties Union has filed a suit against the Freeport Police Department to try and get transparency and accountability when it comes to police records.
The NYCLU requested police misconduct records from the department under the Freedom of Information Law. The group says it didn't get access to the records of officers who were accused but cleared.
"The problem with this is that the public really needs to be able to see the difference between what gets disciplined and what doesn't get disciplined, and the processes and procedures behind those things," says Susan Gottehrer, of the NYCLU.
A spokesperson for the Village of Freeport declined to comment.
