Yours Ours Mine Community Center in Levittown will close its doors at the end of April after serving the community for more than 40 years due to an ongoing financial dispute.
The center?s James Melendez says building owner Youth Building Corporation was supposed to turn assets over to the center once the mortgage was paid off, but that did not happen. A spokesperson for the Youth Building Corporation says that isn?t case. The community center didn?t renew its lease and hasn't paid rent for more than a year, the spokesperson says. Therefore, Yours Ours Mine is being evicted.
The community center offers before- and after-school programs for kids, provides service for seniors with Alzheimer?s and counseling for drug and alcohol abuse.
Levittown mom Lenore Cvitkovic brings her 4-year-old son to the community center?s nursery program and she says she doesn?t know what she's going to when it closes.
?I've been looking around but everything has been unaffordable, so it?s hard,? Cvitkovic says.
Yours Ours Mine is due to close on April 30. A spokesperson with Youth Building Corporation says it?s too late for negotiations.
