Normal service resumed late Friday afternoon on the Long Island Rail Road Far Rockaway branch after an early morning fire near the Woodmere station caused delays.

The MTA says it received the call just before 5:30 a.m.

Responding crews were able to contain the fire in under 45 minutes.

The third rail at the station was emitting smoke while fire crews were working.

Commuters who were traveling between Valley Stream and Far Rockaway had to use buses instead.
