The MTA announced major upgrades Wednesday for two Long Island Rail Road train stations.
The state is investing nearly $200 million to make upgrades at the Hicksville and Jamaica stations. The MTA says the investments in stations will mean fewer delays for commuters.
The MTA says $64.9 million will go toward creating a new platform and tracks at the century-old Jamaica station. Improvements will also include Wi-Fi and USB charging stations and glass-enclosed, heated waiting areas.
At the Hicksville station, a $121 million project is already underway to modernize the 55-year-old station. Upgrades will be similar to those in Jamaica and will also include revamping the elevators and escalators.
Officials say it will make it easier to reroute trains and support supplemental train service in and out of Atlantic Terminal.
The money for the upgrades is coming from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's $27 billion MTA Capital Program.
The work at both stations is expected to be completed by 2019.
