The mother of a 29-year-old who was fatally struck at a Bushwick intersection is advocating for additional safety measures.
News 12
previously reported the death of Philippe Haussmann, who was fatally struck by a box truck while riding his motorcycle.
Haussmann's mother, Joann Perahia, as well as family and friends, have advocated for improvements to make the intersection safer.
They noticed the street where he died only had one stop sign barely visible because it was blocked by trees.
Haussmann's family kicked into action, starting a petition and community walk throughs with stakeholders to get safety improvements to the intersection.
Another stop sign was added there, but friends and family tell News 12 they want to see the street become "daylighted" to make it more visible and have a traffic light installed, as well as other safety measures.
Perahia says she feels her son's death could have been prevented, and she won't stop until more is done because she doesn't want to see anyone else go through it.
“I don’t want another family to live through this. I know it’s the luck of the draw and I know how it works. Someone has to die and it happened to be our luck. I don’t want someone to go through this," said Perahia.
The New York City Department of Transportation tells News 12 it plans on installing a traffic light at the location and is exploring the possibility of additional safety enhancements.
