We're tracking the first rainstorm of the year! Long Island has been on track for the driest January on record, but that could change tomorrow.
Today will be sunny with less wind. High temperatures are in the mid to upper 30s which is about average for this time of the year.
Light showers will start after midnight and are expected through the morning. A few showers could bring areas of patchy ice in the morning as temperatures warm up from near freezing to the 40s later in the day. The afternoon will feature drizzle and mist, reducing visibility for the evening commute.
Rain totals will be less than 0.5 inches, so it's possible the island will still break the record for driest January.
The weekend is dry. Saturday will be breezy and sunny. Clouds will increase on Sunday and a stray rain or snow shower is possible overnight on Sunday.
Next week will start off mild with highs in the 40s, or perhaps near 50 on Monday. Then the weather becomes stormy again. Wednesday into Thursday will bear watching. At this time, a snowstorm is not expected, but temperatures could be cold enough for some snow to mix in with rain or ice. Stay tuned for the latest updates early next week.
