More than 240 Nassau Police Department members set to retire next month
Nearly 250 members of the Nassau County Police Department are expected to retire next month as part of an early retirement incentive program, officials confirmed.
According to the department, 241 police personnel have opted into the program. That number includes 150 sworn officers, as well as 11 chiefs, marking one of the largest single‑month waves of retirements the department has seen in recent years.
County Executive Bruce Blakeman told News 12 that the initiative is a “win‑win” for both officers and county taxpayers. He said the incentives offer longtime members of the force a financially beneficial pathway to retirement while also creating opportunities for new recruits.
Blakeman emphasized that despite the significant number of departures, the county plans to hire new officers to ensure the department continues to operate at full strength.
