The Middle Country Central School District held heart screening exams on Saturday.
The comprehensive screenings included a blood pressure check, an electrocardiogram exam and a consultation with a board-certified cardiologist.
Hannah Hughes, 16, told News 12 that it was “important to get my heart checked. I'm ok for the season."
The school screening comes three months after the loss of Newfield High School student Robert Bush who went into cardiac arrest during a summer workout.
Melinda Murray-Nyack is with Heart Screen New York. Her son died in 2009 after his heart stopped during a basketball game.
“I did not know my child was at risk until he died on the basketball court,” she said. “Kids don't have to die."
More than 400 students got tested at the heart screening at Centereach High School.
