Long Islanders hit the waters today for the annual Maggie Fischer Memorial swim.

About 100 swimmers registered for the swim that began at 7:45 a.m.

The swim started in Kismet and went across the Great South Bay.

The race is named for the 17-year-old Brightwaters teen.

Fischer was a St. Anthony's High School rower who died in a 1999 car accident.

The accident happened just days before Maggie was supposed to make the swim across the bay.

Proceeds from the swim go to a scholarship fund in Fischer's name.
