Three members of one family were born on Leap Day.

Phil Franzese, of Mastic Beach, is 84 or 21 depending on how you look at it.

Franzese says his two sisters each had a child born on Leap Day. Catherine Schimenti, who just turned 11 - in Leap Year time - is Franzese’s niece. She described the situation as “unique” and “rare.”

When it’s not a Leap Year, Franzese and Schimenti choose to celebrate their birthdays on Feb. 28.

Franzese's nephew, who was also born on Leap Day, lives in another state.
