A Massapequa teacher admitted in Central Islip federal court Thursday to uploading hundreds of images of child pornography online.
Joseph Zanco pleaded guilty to transportation and possession of child pornography. He worked as a physics teacher at Massapequa High School for 15 years until he was arrested last August and suspended without pay. Leaving court, he said he was "very much" remorseful.
The 44-year-old admitted he knowingly had hundreds of images on two of his home computers of young girls engaging in sexually explicit conduct. The husband and father says he uploaded the pictures from various websites to his Google account so he could access them at any time.
Zanco had been out on $300,000 bond since his arraignment. On Thursday, Judge Joseph Bianco allowed Zanco to remain out until his sentencing so as not to disrupt the psychiatric treatment he's been undergoing.
Zanco faces five to 30 years in prison when he's sentenced Sept. 16.
