Five adults and five children were displaced by a house fire in Massapequa Tuesday night.
Firefighters responded to a call for a blaze on East Lake Avenue at about 8:18 p.m., according to Nassau County Chief Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro. The fire began in an attached garage.
The Massapequa Fire Department was first on the scene. Occupants self-evacuated from the home and no residents or firefighters were injured.
The fire was under control within an hour, according to Uttaro, but the damage to the home made it uninhabitable.
Fire officials said smoke detectors were present as required and activated.
The Village of Massapequa Park Building Department is evaluating the home.
