Ryan Lindquist was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to murder last month.
Prosecutors say the 23-year-old stabbed Evan Grabelsky more than 150 times in Merrick in June 2019.
Officials say the two men had been in a romantic relationship for about a year.
According to police, the suspect and the victim had known each other for about two years, and they first met using a social media dating app.
