The Massapequa International Softball Team became the first team from New York to ever win the Little League Softball World Series over the weekend.
The community held a celebration at Brady Park Monday for the champions.
Cheers of "Let's Go Massapequa" filled the park as the team was escorted from their bus by public safety and the local volunteer fire department.
Each of the 12 girls on the team were announced through a loudspeaker.
The players say the love from their neighbors is important.
"It's great for the community come support you, it means a lot," says Jocelyn Vandenberg.
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino says the neighborhood could not be prouder of the girls.
“We have a community filled with pride – we are excited for our heroes,” Saladino says. “They are not only the best in the nation, but the world.”
A town hall celebration along with a local parade is also being planned for the team.
