An artist believes one of her paintings was stolen from a Nassau museum.
Margaret Solon told News 12 that one of her paintings has vanished from the African-American Museum in Hempstead, where it was on loan. She says the piece, called "The Koran," is valued at $11,000. Solon believes it was stolen as part of an inside job.
Solon says she last saw her painting in 1999 when she left her job at the African-American Museum. She says it was part of their permanent exhibit.
Solon says she became aware her artwork was gone when a former co-worker told her she should come and check on her painting. Solon said she got the runaround from those who manage the museum after inquiring about its disappearance.
The current executive director of the museum told News 12 that she is unsure what happened to the painting.
A warehouse that holds various articles and artifacts from the museum is run by Nassau County. The county told News 12 they would investigate the loss of the painting.
Solon has also filed a report with the Hempstead Police Department.
