Food pantries have seen an explosion in demand during this pandemic, and now a Manhasset church is helping to feed people in need beyond its community.

During a typical week, the Shelter Rock Church Food Pantry feeds between 60-75 families. Last week, more than 350 families were given food.

Organizers say they normally only serve the local community, but they're now helping families as far away as Massapequa.

They put out a call for help with donations and people stepped up and started dropping off boxes and bags filled with food.

"I'm retired. I'm on Social Security and my mother is on Social Security. So this helps me. Tremendously. You have no idea. No idea…I am so blessed," said Mickey Cotton.
The pantry is open Tuesdays beginning at 3 p.m. The address is 65 High St. in Manhasset.
