A Ronkonkoma man who admitted driving drunk and causing an accident that killed his friend was sentenced Thursday.
A judge sentenced John Keleher to 2 2/3 to 8 years in prison under a plea deal.
Kevin Smith, 25, who was a passenger in the car, was ejected from the vehicle and subsequently died.
Prosecutors say Keleher's blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit.
Lamarca's mother, Patricia Smith-Lamarca, says she will never forgive Keleher for taking her son's life. She believes his sentence was too light.
"Suffolk County gave him a nice slap on the wrists because he has a good attorney, that's it," she said. "They don't go by what happened to my son."
