A Smithtown man was sentenced to 25 years to life behind bars Friday for his wife?s murder inside their Huntington bagel shop.
Robert Anderson, 67, was convicted of killing his estranged wife Ann allegedly because she had been awarded ownership of their two bagel stores in their divorce.
The couple's four children were in court Friday for the sentencing. They say their father got what he deserved for taking the life of their mother. The couple?s daughter Vanessa read a statement from the family in court.
When Anderson addressed the court, he spent more than an hour blasting his wife and did not address his children. He criticized the prosecution and talked about being in a ?hypnotic state? from prescription drugs and alcohol the morning of the murder.
Before handing down the sentence, the judge told Anderson he had no remorse. Anderson's lawyer says he will appeal the verdict, but his children say justice was served and that it's time to move on.
Anderson was also sentenced to an additional 1½ to 4 years for violating an order of protection his estranged wife had against him.
