? A 63-year-old man fell through the gap at the Syosset train station Tuesday morning, injuring his leg and arm.
The man was taken away by ambulance from the scene at approximately 11 a.m. The LIRR says he fell between the platform and an eastbound train. He was able to walk to the stretcher that was waiting and was taken to Syosset North Shore Hospital.
Syosset has one of the widest platform gaps at 13 inches. LIRR has spent millions already and plans to use another $46 million to decrease the size of the gaps at stations over the next four years.
LIRR crews were at the Syosset train station installing red bumpers intended to close up some of the gaps when the accident occurred.
The man was released from the hospital with only minor injuries later Tuesday afternoon.
