A Queens man is facing 40 years to life for shooting a NYPD sergeant from Hicksville while he was on the job. 
A jury convicted John Thomas yesterday of attempted murder. 
Prosecutors say Thomas shot Sgt. Craig Bier twice in his legs three summers ago while he was on patrol in Jamaica, Queens. 
Thomas later surrendered. 
Thomas will be sentenced next month, according to Newsday.
