A man is facing hate crime charges for allegedly destroying a religious statue in Freeport.
Police say Victor Wilson entered the garden of Our Holy Redeemer Church on South Avenue Saturday. He placed clothing of the heads of statues there, and allegedly broke one of them.
Investigators say Wilson had also damaged flood lights at the church the previous night.
Officers say they recognized Wilson from previous arrests involving places of worship.
