A Deer Park man is accused of stabbing a Brentwood man to death.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old Christopher Chavez admitted to stabbing 25-year-old Marlon Velasquez with a kitchen knife on Thursday.
Chavez pleaded not guilty to manslaughter Saturday.
According to prosecutors, Chavez stabbed Velasquez, piercing his lungs, skull and brain. He then allegedly disposed of the victim's belongings and the knife.
Chavez's attorney says the incident happened inside his client's home on Old Country Road in Deer Park. He says the two men did not know each other, but he did not say why Velasquez was inside Chavez's home or what led to the stabbing.
Prosecutors also say Chavez was on probation for a prior larceny at the time of the murder. The judge Saturday said Chavez violated the terms of his probation, and his bail was set at $500,000.
