Incumbent Ed Wehrheim declared victory Tuesday night in the GOP primary for Smithtown Town supervisor.
He now moves on to the general election in November, seeking a third term in office.
His opponent, Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta said he called Wehrheim to congratulate him and said in a statement, "we fell short tonight and that's ok. That's what democracy is all about."
This race turned ugly in the last week, as a man was arrested for allegedly stalking the home of Legislator Trotta, a man whom the Town Supervisor identified as a friend of his daughter.
