A man accused of robbing a Nassau County business is in the custody of Immigration of Customs Enforcement, Nassau officials announced.
County Executive Bruce Blakeman and Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder say David Beckham Adam and a woman stole a diamond bracelet in October worth $11,000 from Kravit Jewelers in Oceanside.
They say Adam, who is originally from Romania, is part of the Transnational Organized Crime Group and is wanted in other countries as well.
Officials say Adam had a New York State driver’s license.
"His ID is part of the NYS driver's license but on the top right corners you can see not for federal purposes,” said Ryder. That only means you can't get on a plane and you cannot enter a federal building. But you know what you can do – you can open up a bank account, you can go and buy things, you can get credit, you can go and steal with that ID card.”
Police are looking for the woman accused in the theft. Officials say once she is found, both her and Adam will be deported.
According to officials, Adam had an Irish passport and entered the U.S. in 2022 through the Mexican-American border.
