Stony Brook University hosts World Cup watch party with Third Eye Blind performing

Soccer fans are gathering at Stony Brook University’s LaValle Stadium for a special live broadcast of World Cup matches.

The event featured a variety of activities, including a tribute to local coaches, who were honored and surprised with tickets to the World Cup.

"I played my collegiate career here on this field, so to come back here and then be honored as a youth soccer coach for girls soccer - and be given tickets to the World Cup - I'm ecstatic. It's like my dream. This is amazing,” said Ashley Gervasi, head coach of the Long Beach varsity girls’ soccer team.

Stony Brook University live-streamed the Canada versus Bosnia and Herzegovina match at 3 p.m.

Doors reopen at 7 p.m. for the nighttime events.

Friday night, the USA vs. Paraguay match will be preceded by a special 8 p.m. performance from award-winning rock band Third Eye Blind, known for hits like “Semi-Charmed Life” and “Jumper.”

Kickoff for the USA vs. Paraguay match is set for 9 p.m.

News 12’s Antoinette Biordi is hosting the nighttime watch party.
