Some residents in Malverne say a proposed condominium development would be detrimental to their neighborhood.
On Tuesday, owners of the planned development on Hempstead Avenue tried to get a zoning change from the Town of Hempstead. That change would allow the developer to build the 12-home complex.
However, the property sits on the border of Malverne, and residents and the village mayor say the complex would be too large and not fit in with the neighborhood.
Malverne Mayor Patricia McDonald says her biggest concern regarding the development would be the increase in traffic, especially during rush hour.
The developer's attorney says the complex would not produce any more traffic than if the property is redeveloped as single-family homes. He adds that the developer is willing to ban owners from renting out their units.
There is no word on when the Hempstead town zoning board will rule on the zoning change.
