It rained steadily Sunday morning, but that didn't stop hundreds of people from showing up at the Nassau Coliseum parking lot to donate toys for kids in need.
Several truckloads were filled with more than 50,000 toys, and each of them will go to kids in need throughout New York state. The event is all thanks to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, the Nassau Police Department and Toys for Tots.
The message of the effort is that every kid deserves to have a happy holiday.
Anyone who wants to pitch in can bring new, unwrapped toys to any U.S. Post Office, 7-Eleven of Miller's Ale House -- just mention that you're donating to
Toys for Tots.
