A staple in Riverhead is set to close soon after giving haircuts to the community for decades.
Andy and Tony Balzano have been barbers for their entire lives, working in their father's shop since 1967. But next Saturday afternoon the Balzano brothers will retire and hang up their scissors as Main Street Haircutters closes.
In 1960, their father, Anthony Balzano, opened his own barbershop in Riverhead with his own brother. Since then, the Balzano brothers have given hundreds of thousands of haircuts.
The brothers take great pride in their accomplishments and the legacy of their family's business.
They are now looking forward to spending more time with their families, traveling, gardening and doing what their customers have always done in the area.
A salon will be opening up at the site of Main Street Haircutters in a couple of months.
