A local musician is striking a chord in the world of invention. Joe LoSchiavo is using his musical talents to create something new. He created the Galaxy Electric Harp.
"At 11 years old, I picked up the guitar, and I've been playing ever since — it's a wonderful addiction," said Joe. It's not your typical guitar; it's half guitar, half harp, and shaped in an eight-note with 12 strings. "This whole concept came around because I was always amazed at the sound of a harp," said LoSchiavo.
LoSchiavo has loved the harp since grade school and now people can catch him playing guitar at the Gateway Playhouse in Bellport.
The idea to create his own instrument came in tune several years ago, and it was officially patented in October 2024.
"One show we were doing - I was listening to these wonderful synthesized - and that's a keyboard, harp sounds, that were digitally done, and I said, You know what? I love that sound. Why can't I do that sound but real with all my little guitar effects and pedals to make it sound like a guitar?'" he said.
So, LoSchiavo created it!
LoSchiavo loves playing the instrument.
He also shares his skills and teaches others.
"It’s just a passion, and every day there’s something that you can do, especially on the guitar string instrument. It’s so expressive, you can express yourself on there," said Joe.
