A longtime Coram movie theater has gone dark over the lack of foot traffic and high operational costs.
Nicole Rapp, the general manager at Movieland Cinemas, says the move was necessary.
"With low foot traffic and high rent, it's hard to keep the doors open," says Rapp. "We really hope to open soon in the future."
Movieland Cinemas has been a popular spot for gaming entertainment and watching the latest movies.
Some businesses in the Pine Plaza are concerned about the sudden closure, hoping it doesn't cause a ripple effect.
Rapp says the theater hopes to return even stronger one day with the help of the community.
"You really have to support small businesses, especially local movie theaters," says Rapp. "We would really like to do a renovation, but it takes community support to pull that off. We look forward to that opportunity in the future."
