Two-long lost siblings accidentally bumped into each other at Riverhead High School last fall, ending three decades of separation.
Kenneth Morgan ran into his sister, now Cathy Heller, for the first time since 1978 at an open house at the school. Morgan works there as a security guard.
"The moment was so surreal," Heller said. "I was in shock."
When their parents divorced, Morgan moved in with his father in Brentwood. Heller and their other brother remained at their mother's Central Islip home. Despite their efforts to find each other, the chance meeting in September was their first encounter since Morgan joined the army in the late 1970s.
The brother and sister are now both parents themselves. They said they have a strong and cherished relationship.
"Five minutes we just stood there and looked at each other, hugged each other," Morgan said.
