Medical research facilities on Long Island have been responsible for some major breakthroughs.
Senator Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is concerned they could see a "crater" in their federal funding following the Trump administration's decision to make cuts at the National Institutes of Health.
He says $50 million could be pulled from facilities on LI such as Cold Spring Harbor Labs, Stony Brook University, Feinstein Institute, Brookhaven National Lab and others.
Schumer is calling on GOP lawmakers on Long Island to speak out against the potential damage that he believes would cost Long Islanders their jobs, and roll back significant progress made on research into cancer, Parkinson's and Lyme Disease.
