It’s been two days since Long Island was hit by a blizzard,
and Long Islanders say the roads are still not in great shape.
The major roadways appear to be clear, but side streets remain messy.
“I understand there’s a lot to do and this was a severe
snowfall, but I thought it would have been a little bit better,” says
Massapequa resident Joe Halama.
Crews continued to remove snow off the street with bulldozers
in places like Levittown on Monday. By the afternoon, blacktop was showing, and
salt and sand was still being spread.
Some residents, however, didn’t want to wait.
Oceanside resident Jim Moreno, 75, says he was disappointed
in the response and had to shovel the street in front of his house so he could
park his car.
“I said, ‘I’m not going to wait, we have to get the car
out and I’m going have to do the street,’” Moreno says.
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joe Saladino told News 12 in part,
“Our town fleet has been out for three days straight pre-treating, plowing,
clearing and again treating the more than 700 miles under our watch, under the
stressful conditions brought about by this massive blizzard.”
Officials in the town of Hempstead told News 12 that “the
progress will continue until the over 1,200 miles of town streets are cleared.”
