Saturday marked the full time opening of all state parks and beaches on Long Island.

Hundreds of thousands of visitors have gone to Jones Beach and other state parks over the past two days. Residents heading out this weekend have even more options.

“We call it the full opening. That means that all of the pools begin operation, the fields that we would normally have closed prior to the season open up, so that we have plenty of room throughout the state park beaches. Hours get extended. Here at Jones Beach, we begin open until midnight,” said State Parks Regional Director George Gorman.

Officials say more parking, lifeguards and park staff were added due to the number of people visiting state parks and beaches.
